Returning from the Abyss!

Hi Fellow Digital Marketers, I've been M.I.A. for a while and I apologize for that. I've been recently changing jobs to Field ID  and I've been busy with the transition. Sorry everyone! Today I started a SaaS meetup group with Adrien Niblock to get SaaS (Software as a service) professionals together. I'll keep everyone updated but that's all for now! Please check out my friend's new one page website builder, webbykit . Peace! J

New Penguin 2.1 Algothrim Update is live! Friend's new agency website is live as well!

The new Penguin 2.1 Algothrim update happened on October 4th  and it affected 1% of all queries (confirmed by Matt Cutts). Penguin 2.1 is just an improved version of the Google Penguin update - the penguin update fights against black hat SEO tactics and spammy link building. This is the 5th update of the series of  updates with more to be confirmed. See the dates below for the updates. Here are all the confirmed releases of Penguin to date: Penguin 1 on April 24, 2012 (impacting around 3.1% of queries) Penguin 2 on May 26, 2012 (impacting less than 0.1%) Penguin 3 on October 5, 2012 (impacting around 0.3% of queries) Penguin 4 (AKA Penguin 2.0) on May 22, 2013 (impacting 2.3% of queries) Penguin 5 (AKA Penguin 2.1) on Oct. 4, 2013 (impacting around 1% of queries) Source: http://searchengineland.com/penguin-2-1-and-5-live-173632 My friend's agency website just went live today. Feel free to check it out at www.digitalkits.co . That's all the SEO updates I have f

It's Friday and we are graced with a new Google "Hummingbird" Algorithm Update!

It's Friday, Friday, Friday! that's the good news. Now comes the bad, we've been told today that Google has updated their search engine Algorithm since last month. This Google update is being called "Hummingbird". Search Engine Land has a great article about the update -  http://searchengineland.com/google-hummingbird-172816 Don't worry my fellow SEOs, the "Hummingbird" doesn't effect our efforts much as we have been doing (unless you are black hat!). The update does more good than bad for SEOs. Google updated their Algorithm better indexing of websites to accommodate for "conversational search". Conversational search as describe by fellow SEOs is the human speak to search engines. For example, I would type in Google search "find me a great Italian restaurant near me" instead "restaurants in Toronto". This open the door to a large number of new search queries and rankings never seen before. Another effect of th

Stress Less and Chill Out

I gotta get this phrase entrenched into my brain because I've been running around in circles lately and not making much time for the most important people to me. I've realized I have a lot of reading to do and a couple of documentaries to catch up on and I'm going to that over this weekend (awesome sauce!). It's Friday again so I gotta find some events to do on the weekend but I have one planned already. I'm going to the Ai Wei Wei exhibit on Saturday with Cady :) It's going to be fun. I've read many reviews about it and really excites me to even think about going (not much of an art fan in the first place). Fall has officially started and it's awesome even though I am starting to get a bit chilly. I can't wait until it snows because I love going sledding. Back to work for me. Peace! J

TGIF Awesomeness!

Image
Hey Everyone! It's Friday again (cue party music). The day is going by quick and it's been awesome so far. I'm currently catching up on all the SEO and SEM news on Feedly (awesome reader) and doing work. New things coming down the pipeline for Google; I can't wait to test them all! *excited* The new Robocop movie looks kinda cool but I really do not like the fact that Robocop is a burnt guy with a robotic armor instead of a guy that has been rebuilt with only 3 human parts - heart, brain, and face like in the original 1987 Robocop. See below both Robocop trailers and compare. (note: the 1987 Robocop trailer looks more like a mash up of the best of scenes in the movie rather than an actual trailer). 2014 Robocop 1987 Robocop Enjoy! Back to work I go. Peace! J

We have finally moved into our new home!

Happy Monday Everyone! Over the weekend, Cady and I packed up all our stuff and moved over to the new apartment with the help of some friends ( Andrew Yeung  was one of the helpers). The day was met with many problems - one being that we had the elevator at the new place for 1 hour less than they quoted us for. So we had to move a whole truck full of stuff up to our apartment in 30 minutes (not possible); luckily the people that booked the elevator after us allowed us to use the elevator for 45 minutes as they went to pick up their second load of stuff (phew). Yesterday, Cady and I just unpacked most of our stuff and built patio furniture. The stupid Lowes patio set came with 3 right arms and 1 left arm for the chairs. We'll have to ask for a new chair left arm now from Lowes. We're all settled now and getting used to the place. We have no internet until September 3rd (I might go crazy). Cady's best friend Megan is staying with us starting tomorrow until the first week

TGIF + DOG

Thank God It's Friday! Eva brought in her dog, Mini today. A medium sized dog that just struts around awesomely. It's great to have a dog in and especially in on a Friday. Happiness all around! Take a look at my friend's site dogplay ! Tomorrow is move day for me (WOOT) and an awesome party tonight. I'm not going to get much sleep during the next two days but it's alright; Sunday has already been designated as a rock day (a day where you do nothing but act like a rock and stay still). Back to work now. You have an awesome day and keep that awesomeness up! Peace! J

Gumby Randomness

Image
So today Andrew Yeung and I were having fun during lunch in the office. We were reading up on search marketing strategies (Search Engine Journal is AWESOME!). We saw Gumby on a co-worker's desk so we played around with it. I would say the picture turned out pretty well. Gumby riding a horse Note: Gumby's horse was not hurt in this picture If you have never seen Gumby, go watch it! (seriously) It's really awesome. Go Gumby! Peace! J

My first post answered some vital questions about what my name is and what I do on a daily basis but I have not posted my picture yet. Below are some random pictures of me so everyone can get used to what I look like. Disclaimer: please do not read further if you are offended by the sight of randomness; thank you.
